Considerations Before Becoming a B-Corp

Tips for Creative and Animation Studios

At Flying Duck Studio Lab, our passion lies in leveraging creativity to create a positive impact. Recently, we initiated our B Corp journey, and we currently have Pending certification. Later this year, we anticipate undergoing an audit with the hope of receiving full certification, a testament to our commitment to aligning our values with our operations.

We understand the importance of this decision and are here to offer support and guidance to fellow creative and animation studios considering becoming a B Corp.

Here are some things to consider before applying:

Understand the B-Corp Certification Process:

Becoming a B Corp requires a thorough understanding of the certification process. It’s essential to familiarise yourself with the requirements and implications of B-Corp certification, both legally and operationally. We encourage you to delve into the assessment process, evaluate any necessary changes to your corporate structure, and ensure that you have a clear understanding of the commitment involved.

Align Your Company’s Values:

B Corps are committed to using studio as a force for good. As a creative company, take the time to align your company’s values with the principles of B Corp certification. Consider how you can make a positive impact on your community, environment, and stakeholders while remaining profitable. This may involve implementing sustainability practices, promoting diversity and inclusion, sourcing ethically, and prioritising the well-being of your employees.

Assess Long-Term Sustainability:

B-Corp certification is a long-term commitment. It’s important to assess your studio’s long-term sustainability and capacity to meet the ongoing social and environmental performance standards. Consider the resources, commitments, and potential impacts of becoming a B Corp. Ensure that your studio has the dedication and capability to meet the requirements of B Corp certification over the long haul.

Communicate Your B-Corp Status:

Being a B Corp can be a powerful tool for communicating your studio’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Develop a clear messaging strategy to effectively communicate your B Corp status to your clients, partners, and stakeholders. Utilise your website, social media platforms, and other marketing channels to educate and engage your audience about your B Corp journey and the positive impact it brings.

B-Corp certification may have legal and financial implications for your studio. It’s crucial to seek advice from legal and financial experts to fully understand the implications of becoming a B Corp. Review your company’s legal structure, tax status, and financial reporting requirements. Be prepared for potential changes to your operational and financial processes to comply with B Corp standards.!

Finally….

Becoming a B Corp can be a meaningful and impactful decision for creative companies. At Flying Duck Studio Lab, we’re committed to making a positive difference through our animation & design services, and we’re excited to share our journey to becoming a B Corp with you.
