the animation process

1. Brief

We listen to your objectives and goals to understand the story you wish to convey, along with your target audience, deadline and budget requirements. Key elements of this information feed in to your script, treatment and style frames.

2. script

Whether you are adept at writing your own script or require our help and collaboration to form your story, you’ll always have the opportunity to steer, amend and sign off your final script.

3. Mood board

A mood board is a type of visual presentation or ‘collage’ consisting of images, text and samples of objects in a composition. It can be based on a set topic or can be any material chosen at random. A mood board can be used to convey a general idea or feeling about a particular topic.

4. VISUAL TREATMENT

Visualising our proposal includes developing the character design, backgrounds, style of animation and graphic treatment – the entire look and feel!

5. STYLEFRAMES
and STORYBOARD

Working in accordance with your brand guidelines and from our brief, we create a number of key frames so you can see exactly how the video will look. We’ll also create a written treatment, which sits alongside the script and describes what we’ll animate in line with the voiceover. We believe this gives you the best understanding of how the animation will look and what it will include.

6. BoardOmatic

A boardomatic is a camera move-only test. It consists of camera moves and audio track, but virtually no animation. Once the pre-production has been approved, we then move on with the voiceover, soundtrack and the animation.

7. soundtrack
and VOICE OVEr

We can help you find the ideal voice and soundtrack to match your brand and budget. If you already have your own voice over artist, or would like to take an organic approach and record your CEO or MD, we’re happy to accommodate this. All we ask is that you don’t record this on your iPhone! Likewise, we can help you find the right style of music to the animation.

8. ANIMATION

With the script, styleframes and voiceover signed off, it’s time to start animating. Animation isn’t a quick process and this step may take several weeks to complete, depending on the length of the voiceover. This is why it’s essential we communicate and collaborate effectively to sign off the work in the previous bullet points.

9. TWO ROUNDS
OF AMENDS

We want our clients to be happy with their brand spanking new animations. To achieve this, we focus on making all major changes within two rounds of amends to avoid incurring delays and extra costs.

10. SOUND MIX

The soundtrack is created prior to animating the video, enabling us to sync up the timings. Once the animation has been approved, we can tweak the soundtrack and audio effects, mixing it properly to find the right balance.

11. Sign OFf

The animated video is exported and delivered to you based on your technical requirements. You can now relax and have that well-earned cup of tea!
