Swagger is an American tv series and we were commissioned to be a part of the animation team at Shine Studio for the new season on Apple tv+. The series has a beautiful main title sequence with paintings designed and conceived by the acclaimed fine artist, Lisa Whittington. All of her paintings were brought to life through animation.
The Artist was creating the artwork in procreate with an Ipad and we had to optimise the files to work in Photoshop and After Effects, which meant recreating background plates, elements and even characters from the original artwork and using them as textures and new objects on the artwork to be animated. Working with an American studio meant working under a different time zone for meetings, deadlines and delivery. Communication was key in keeping track and delivering assets on time. It was also important to maintain the beauty and authenticity of the paintings while bringing them to life.
We needed to separate the different elements to be able to create the parallax effect. That was a time where generative fill from Photoshop wasn’t a thing and we needed to do it manually. In order to match the brush strokes in Procreate we had to use a combination of the three different software, Procreate, Photoshop and After Effects. We did the final animation in After Effects with some parallax effects and 3D cameras and some character animation techniques.

The client was so happy with the final result that they requested we match the first season’s main title shots with the work we did in the second season’s main title sequence. That was a big compliment to our work and skills.
